EGM: "While it cant always escape the reality of being a dungeon-crawling RPG originally released in 1997, Shin Megami Tensei: Devil SummonerSoul Hackers has stood up amazingly well to the tests of time, and it still stands as an enjoyable, engrossing experience into the near-future world of demonic warfare."

Gaming Union: "Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner - Soul Hackers is similar in some aspects to Atlus' previous re-release of the original Persona on the PSP. Both have that '90s feel to them, but in Soul Hacker's case the base game itself and the modifications Atlus employed in the re-release make it a much more approachable game in every way. If you can stomach through its rough edges, of which there are a few, Soul Hackers is a game you'll want to let your Nintendo 3DS get hacked by."

"When I first heard of the game Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers I wasnt sure what to think. I knew it was a classic RPG that many people enjoyed. With me I enjoy the heck out any RPG since I can spend hours having a good time. Maybe at times itll be hard but who cares; as long as youre having fun its a good sign. Now lets fast forward to 2013 in which this game is now being released on the 3DS. You can guess that this game is a port of the classic with more enhanced features than before."

StickSkills said, "Shin Megami Tensei: Devl Summoner: Soul Hackers for the Nintendo 3DS is a remake of a 1997 Saturn game of the same name (though only released in Japan). Newcomers to the MegaTen series will approach Soul Hackers with cautious hopefulness, having heard so many great things about the series and its developer, Atlus, but wondering if a 1997 game still holds up to todays standards. What they will find in Soul Hackers is a JRPG like many others, but one that offers quite likeable (and fully voice-acted) characters, a wide array of demons (think Pokemon), and gameplay that walks a thin line between fun and tedious."

Destructoid: "Soul Hackers is not a full-on remake, and more of a re-release. But you know what? Considering how well the game holds up even today, that's ok. Soul Hackers may have a number of antiquated principles and mechanics, but none of them are unprecedented or that difficult to deal with. So long as you're willing to put up with a bit of age, you'll be diving into one of the most accessible and enjoyable Shin Megami Tensei games in the series."

| Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers Review - TGH

TGH Writes: Western audiences have barely played the Shin Megami Tensei Devil Summoner series. The only two that have arrived on our shores were Devil Summoner: Raidou Kuzunoha 1 and 2. Everything else before that is history, such as Soul Hackers and the original Devil Summoner for the Sega Saturn. Thankfully, Atlus is finally bringing Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers to the west for the Nintendo 3DS, complete with improvements and additions to provide the full bag of tricks. But does the arrival of Soul Hackers grace Western shores with good intent, or should it be devoured by demons?
